As the food service director for the elementary schools in Brattleboro I’m held to higher standards then the federal or even state guidelines require. The Food Connects team helps me meet and exceed those standards. With trainings on everything from local procurement to how trauma forms food associations Food Connects has helped me evolve into a more caring and understanding person—leading me to be better equipped to deal with the multitude of students needs we provide for. The crew at the Food Hub is wonderful and never fails to get my orders to me—even when it means personally driving them in their own cars! And Sheila, on the Farm to School team, has been an invaluable source of inspiration and coaching. The entire Food Connects team and the mission they support are always there to help guide and support us any way they can.

It’s been so wonderful working with Food Connects this year. They’ve helped us with a grant to get a fully stocked cooking cart to compliment our garden and nutrition programs. They have connected us with local nutrition educators to enhance our students nutrition education. In addition, Food Connects has written articles highlighting some of our schools’ garden projects. They always keep our staff informed of current professional development workshops centered around food and community outreach. Green Street School feels really lucky to be working with them.

Our program is about getting the best local food onto the trays of our students and Food Connects helps us do it. Making meals in schools means following a lot of regulations and the support we get from the Farm to School Staff at Food Connects saves us time, which keeps us in the kitchen and off the computer.

Food Connects has been instrumental in supporting Oak Grove School’s garden. Their support has allowed our annual Harvest Supper to become something that all members of the school community look forward to.
