We are a catalyst for food system change.

Food Connects’ strategic plan calls for us to be a catalyst for food system change in New England and beyond. What does this mean?

We believe that transforming the food system requires the direct engagement and empowerment of all of us. We work to be a leader in strengthening the movement for community-based food systems throughout New England, building healthy families, thriving farms, and connected communities as we progress.

EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY

Our Farm to School program works in schools throughout Windham County to develop lifelong healthy eating habits in children. We focus on increasing the availability of fresh and nutritious foods in schools, growing engagement in the local food system, offering hands-on learning opportunities, and strengthening the connection between cafeterias, classrooms, and the greater community in working together to have a collective impact.

MARKET DEVELOPMENT

Our Food Hub is a regional food distributor. We make it easy for wholesale customers throughout New England to purchase source-identified food from a variety of regional producers, offering competitive pricing, personalized service, and products they can feel good about. And in doing so our Food Hub opens new markets for farmers, helps ensure that farmland will be here for generations to come, and strengthens our regional food economy.

Through our efforts we engage with: School Communities, Farmers & Food Producers, Wholesale Buyers, Community Members, and State and Local Leaders
